NEW YORK CITY BLUES
Whether it is fronting one of New York City's hottest blues bands or opening for Kiss as an indie-rock guitarist, J. Blake has been a staple of the New York City music scene for over two decades; headlining on many of the Big Apple’s most prestigious stages. Over the years, he has played lead-guitar for many notable New York blues and rock acts and was a founding member of the indie-rock groups Roadkill Breakfast and Stiletto Wheels. These days he is doing what he does best, flying solo and serving up a unique blend of classic and contemporary blues, rock and jazz. In November of 2015, J. Blake was inducted into the New York Blues Hall of Fame.
J. Blake's sound can best be described as a high-octane combination of Chicago & Texas-style blues with healthy doses of rock ‘n’ roll, modern blues-rock, jazz and at times...a touch of funk. His singing and playing styles have been compared to Freddie King and Warren Haynes and he takes great pride in the fact that critics have called his sound "authentic" and the fun he and his band have on stage "infectious."
His debut album When You Coming Home? received favorable reviews for its unique take on blues and rock standards. In 2024, J. Blake produced and contributed to a star-studded compilation album of reimagined versions of popular horror movie themes, title Scored to Death: Musique d’Horreur.

J. Blake’s work in the studio is unique and eclectic. His blues album,
When You Coming Home? features originals and new arrangements of familiar standards, including a smokey jazz version of Howlin’ Wolf’s “Spoonful” and an ol’ school rock ‘n’ roll cover of Led Zeppelin’s “Rock and Roll.”
In 2024, J. Blake produced a compilation album of reimagined cover versions of famous horror movie themes, titled Scored to Death: Musique d’Horreur. It found him working with an amazing group of talent that included Steve Moore from the band Zombie, legendary heavy metal drummer Richard Christy, the bands Anima Morte & Voyag3r, and film composers Alan Howarth, Holly Amber Church, Wojciech Golczewski, and the Blair Brothers. For the album J. Blake recorded new versions of the Italian progressive rock band Goblin’s “Profondo Rosso” (from the film Deep Red and featuring Richard Christy on drums) and composer Riz Ortolani’s gorgeous theme from the infamous film Cannibal Holocaust (recorded under the pseudonym The Brisco County Youth Orchestra).
